The leading edge of medicine is already massively better than the leading edge 30 years ago.

Given that overweight and diabetes are bigger problem than they were 30 years ago, how do you know that medicine is much better?

Lifespan probably lags behind as a metric.

Developing new drugs gets more and more expensive. http://pipeline.corante.com/archives/2012/03/08/erooms_law.php

If you look at the exponential rising price of developing new drugs I think that's what you expect to see when innovation is slowing down in medicine.
