I'm thinking that charity should not influence epistemology. Adjusting your map for charitable reasons seems like the wrong thing to do.

I think you need to readup on the Principle Of Charity and realise that it's about accurate communication ,not some vague notion of niceness.

That's what my question upthread was about -- is the principle of charity as discussed in this thread a matter of my belief (=map) or is it only about communication?

It's both. You need charity to communicate accurately, and also to form accurate beliefs. The fact that people you haven't been charitable towards seem stupid to you is not reliable data.

Research and discover.

How else would you interpret this series of clarifying questions?

I can tell someone the answer, but they may might not believe me. The might better off researching it form reliable sources than trying to figure it out from yet another stupid internet argument.
