The second response follows from society’s conventional attitude towards anything it deems to be an impure motive: absolute and unrestrained damnation.

If we teach people that realistic motivation is evil, only evil people will have realistic motivation.

This is actually a very poisonous meme for the society, because it convinces people that "win/win" situations do not exist, because as long as you "win", it magically makes the other person "not win", regardless of all other evidence.
