This is a good idea, and having a sense of what the landscape looks like / what people are up to is a huge part of the community.

But I'm not quite sure the best way to manage it yet. There are problems with self-reports, and there are problems with matching; it's one thing if someone like Vassar is keeping tabs on lots of projects and knows what holes are where, and when he comes across someone can say "ah, you'd likely fit in hole #14" and direct them accordingly, it's another thing is someone says "hey, we need a X to do Y" and the wrong set of people responds due to difficulty in self-diagnosing X.
