FWIW, I'd describe myself as a softcore EA, and I haven't noticed any judging or shaming. I don't go out of my way to hang out with EAs, so that's probably part of it, but I have spent a while around them.
Before Ozy gave me the language of softcore/hardcore, I once said that I don't particularly think of myself as an EA, and got a look like "what are you talking about, you're totally an EA".
Glad you didn't get any of sense of status games, and remember, I said "in many EA circles." For a different perspective, see 1 and 2.
To be clear, I too have experienced the "not sure I'm doing enough" feeling - that's why I said I didn't particularly think of myself as an EA. But that's not because I've encountered judging or shaming from other people, even implicit and unintended. (And I'm not saying that doesn't happen, either.)
