I lack the expertise to judge any of this -- but I hope someone who does have the requisite expertise shows up in the comments. I have a friend with FMS/CFS and this would be relevant to him.

I recommend Broda Barnes' book : 'Hypothyroidism: The Unsuspected Illness'. It's pretty much what you'd expect from a 1970s popular medical book, but the author was a real endocrinologist and a practising MD, and as far as I can tell, his observations agree with the predictions of my idea. (See second post, linked at top of this one).

He's almost certainly wrong about a lot of stuff, but he's also probably the last best word we have from the world before the hormone blood tests sodded everything up.
