WHEN: 12 December 2017 07:00:00PM (-0500)

WHERE: 810 Avenue Duluth E, Montréal, QC H2L 1B3, Canada

Meetup Event Reference: https://www.meetup.com/Artificial-Intelligence-Ethics/events/245484812/ This is the last event for the discussion group on the book Superintelligence. Write to Mati at mathieu.roy.37@gmail.com to borrow a copy of the book. During the first part of the event, we will discuss chapters 11 to 14. During the second part of the event, we will discuss chapter 15, and more generally, whether superintelligence is a problem we should prioritize, and what we can do about it (ie. the title of the event refers to the last section of the book). Main readings: ch. 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 of Superintelligence: Paths, Dangers, Strategies by Nick Bostrom (ch. 1 to 10 are also mandatory if you haven’t read them yet) Optional Readings: check out this LessWrong sequences for additional material: http://lesswrong.com/r/discussion/lw/kw4/superintelligence_reading_group/

Preparation Here are ideas of things we can do before the discussion session: • share other complementary readings you find (in the comment section) • think of follow-up questions to discuss • find alternative views to the main reading / critics of the main reading • write down point of discussion (such as disagreements) • notice where we updated (/ changed) our mind • think if/how the information is actionable • think of the strategical implication of the information (ie. priorities, policies, strategies, etc.) • think of potential sources of biases
