Tegan Maharaj and David Krueger are PhD students at the Montreal Institute for Learning Algorithms (MILA), Yoshua Bengio's world-leading AI research group.

They will present a gentle introduction to modern machine learning and AI, providing technical understanding of how these systems actually work.

The goal is to increase the background level of knowledge for audience members who are passionate about understanding and influencing the social impacts and risks of AI.

Finally, they will address the scenario of a hostile takeover by AI, explaining the arguments motivating the genuine concerns of the research community and distinguishing them from popular misconceptions.

Doors will open at 18:00, and the presentation will start at 18:30.
