One thing which we might need - and don't yet really have - is parallelism.

True, there are FPGAs, but these are still a nightmare to use. Elsewhere parallelism is absurdly coarse-grained.

We probably won't need anything very fancy on the hardware front - just more speed and less cost, to make the results performance- and cost-competitive with humans.
