Meet Up: Princeton NJ Meetup

Larks 22 October 2013 02:10AM

WHEN: 16 November 2013 01:00:00PM (-0500)

WHERE: Small World Coffee, 14 Witherspoon St. Princeton, NJ 08540

My girlfriend and I have just moved to Princeton, and would like to meet any LessWrong readers who go to the university or live in the area. I used to co-run the Oxford meetups a long time ago, and it'd be good to do something similar again. All welcome! We don't have any particular topics in mind, but we're A) willing to discuss anything LW-ey, as well as just socialise, and B) capable of coming up with conversation topics, so don't feel you have to have anything clever to say to be welcome! As such, we hereby precommit to being at Small World Coffe* from 1pm to 3pm. By the sign of the paperclip so shall ye know us. If you prefer a different time/place, please let me know, either by PM or in the comments. *unless people recommend a better option before October 31st. At that point the time and date are fixed.

I think we might have a coordination problem. I am wearing a fox-colored scarf.

Nice~!

I'm driving to upstate New York afternoon of 11-16, but would like to meet you all at a subsequent gathering. So I hope you get together again. That time's usually good for me.

Also: Infini-T, just around the corner down Witherspoon street is also a great place to meet, if it's not too crowded. It's a bit pricier but I like the drink selection better.

Excellent! We will endeavor to. I look forward to meeting you.

How was the meeting? Did you plan to meet again soon?

It was great thanks! There will be more, but we haven't scheduled a date yet. It certainly won't be thanksgiving weekend, and we'll try and make sure it's intra-term time.

I'm in Princeton and would try to attend a meetup, but am away that weekend. Could you do some evening that following week?

Could you make the following saturday? We're flexible on which weekend.

Yes, Sat the 16th is better.

Comment author: Larks 25 October 2013 01:34:34AM 0 points [-]

I've amended the date accordingly.

I'm confused. Is the date and location in the body of the post correct or not? These "I've amended the X" comments seem to imply so, but this thread would suggest the date is now the 16th, and the post says the 9th. Please clarify. I live in Central NJ and would love to attend if I can. Either date works for me.

Please note we're meeting at the Small World on Witherspoon, not Nassau. I didn't realise there were two.

Sorry, it seems that when you create a meetup, LW creates two different pages, which share comments, but can have different text. I changed the text for one, but didn't realise there was a second I wasn't changing.

Do you attend the college? I'm an undergrad there.

Would Saturday 16th work for you? If so we will change the date

Comment author: Bayeslisk 24 October 2013 03:52:53PM 0 points [-]

Yes, this should be fine.

I've amended the date accordingly.

We should do more of these.

There are two Small World locations in Princeton -- the big one on Witherspoon and the small one on Nassau. The event page is indicating the small one, on Nassau. Is that the intent?

Comment author: Larks 07 November 2013 05:16:39AM 0 points [-]

Oops, did not realise that was the case. No clear Schelling point.

Hence: we meet at the big one.

I'll be there! Looking forward to it :)

Do you go to Princeton University by any chance?

Comment author: loxfordian 23 October 2013 04:01:58PM 0 points [-]

I work at the Princeton Neuroscience Institute, so I'm technically staff :)

GOOD GODS WHAT?! Having recovered from falling out of my chair, I would be delighted to attend! I'd actually suggest somewhere with cheaper and better food/coffee/ice cream/consumables, like Small Worlds, EPS, Tomo Sushi, or Bent Spoon. See you there!

Comment author: Larks 22 October 2013 11:53:07PM 1 point [-]

Location amended accordingly, and I look forward to meeting you.

Comment author: Bayeslisk 23 October 2013 05:58:36AM 1 point [-]

It seems to have changed itself back.

Comment author: Larks 07 November 2013 05:19:36AM 0 points [-]

Please note we're meeting at the Small World on Witherspoon, not Nassau. I didn't realise there were two.

Comment author: Bayeslisk 07 November 2013 06:30:11PM 0 points [-]

That is good to know! I had assumed Nassau.

Sorry about all this. The perils of organizing a meetup in a place you haven't been before.

Comment author: Bayeslisk 09 November 2013 06:50:09AM 0 points [-]

No problem!
