In another SDnet thread:

...it had the wrong premise. It was "corporate, terrorist and gangster culture with a VR twist" instead of "this is how the cylons came to be."

I've heard similar descriptions elsewhere; that the AI-related parts are there but diluted in frequently non-sci-fi plotlines.
