I suggest you read through EYs ethics posts, they provide an interesting answer to this question (if you already have read them then I apologise).
Literally to the question "How repugnant a thing should you be willing to do...?" If you gave me a link I would be grateful.
The way he phrased the question was "would you kill babies if it was the right thing to do?", but the intended meaning is the same.
Its a short sequence of posts, not all directly related to that question, 1 2 3 4 5 6
