I'm fairly sure I don't have ADD. Would I observe this with caffeine? (Is caffeine a stimulant in the sense you mean?)

Yep, some of us do self-medicate with caffeine. The theory is that the stimulants give your brain the input you'd otherwise get from being fidgety, context-switching often, etc., freeing you up to focus on whatever's at hand. (The usual medications for ADD are in fact amphetamines and the like; my Concerta(tm) is a Schedule II controlled substance for that reason, so I have to use non-refillable paper scripts.
