Southern California Meetup May 21, Weekly Irvine Meetups on Wednesdays
Southern California is about to have a lot more meetups. To get the ramp up started, there will be a meet up at this IHOP across the street from John Wayne Airport in Irvine, on Saturday May 21 from 2:00 to 8:00. We will likely be at the upstairs table, but just tell them you are with the Less Wrong meetup and they will point you in the right direction. This should become a monthly meetup, hopefully one of several monthly meetups held on different weekends of the month in different cities in Southern California.
We are also starting weekly meetups in Irvine. These will be Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00, starting May 18, at the outdoor food court near the UCI Campus, at Campus and Bridge. Look for me with sign showing a diagram of a naive neural classifier of bleggs and rubes.

Exciting. I'll make it to least a few of the Irvine ones in June and hopefully a few more in August.
I've been intending to get more involved in this community for a while. I will come on Saturday, but I won't be able to make the Wednesday meetings. Just out of curiosity, is there anybody who would be interested in a regular Antelope Valley meetup?
Sweet: three meetups (Saturday and surrounding Wednesdays) at the time I'm couch-surfing (or urban camping) in the area.
I will attend most of the weekly Irvine meetups, at least through the end of July.
I'll try to be at the meet-up this Wednesday, and hopefully Saturday as well for the early half.
I should be there this Saturday. I'll have to miss the Wednesday ones, though. Irvine is a bit expensive a drive for me to do regularly.
Is anyone coming from around San Diego who would like to carpool?
Yeah, the plan was for the weekend meetup to attract people from a wider area. Maybe you or Jennifer can organize weekly meetups in San Diego.
I'm in the process of doing that. I'm looking up possible locales. I should have some solid info about that by Saturday.
I expect to be in Irvine from June 14-22 with a gap on/around the 19th. I will attend local meetups that I become aware of which occur while I'm there.
Aw, I will be out of town for most of that time. Hopefully I will see you at the meetup on the 22nd.

I'm thinking of coming up from Oceanside (just south of the MC base) how solid is the meet up base? I'd hate to get up there after fighting traffic to have the meet up canceled entirely.

Oh, I'm aware, thanks. :3 I can't come this week, and in any case, I would likely feel a bit out-of-place in an atheist meetup in a way I wouldn't be in a rationalist meetup. At least on LW, the opposition to my religion is secondary.
