Think of Solomonoff induction as trying to guess what prediction algorithm you should be using. Past observations tell how well various prediction algorithms would do. Then it's suddenly not such a big assumption that the things it weights are mere algorithms. And whatever procedure you are actually using to predict the behavior of the black boxes, Solomonoff induction would beat, I expect (having math for this would be better).
