I'm not sure this will work well when being read aloud, and if you haven't already read the dragon post.
"The beliefs of young children actually shape their expectations. If a child believes there is a dragon in their garage, they really expect to see one there."
For the intended audience, most people should be familiar with that. (There are going to be dramatically more obscure references over the course of the night). But for generally audiences, yeah.
Or the Carl Sagan work it's a reference to, presumably.
