This is true but becomes a non-issue as soon as post-scarce computational resources and brain backups are available (
while true; do sleep 1y; instantiate backup_01.mind &; done). The correct response is "go for cryonics as soon as possible".Assuming that personality divergence is slow enough for that, so that each restore doesn't kill you - is anterograde amnesia the only alternative to death? That would suck.
It's a fork, not a restore. The point is to make sure that there's never a time where all me's have, say, chosen to suicide. It's insurance against divergence.
