It's a useful heuristic, but I try to be very cautious about selecting heuristics that confirm what I would like to believe.

Intelligent machines are likely to one day be able to upload humans - but the chance of any individual modern human getting uploaded are probably pretty slender. So, you probably shouldn't feel as though you have a personal stake.
