Is this definition generally accepted?
Definitely not in philosophy, where the two are used interchangeably. But some literature on professional ethics draws a distinction somewhat similar to this (morals being your own values etc. and ethics being about what to do in particular situations where you're not sure what to do).
A similar distinction is drawn in professional work - ethical refers to professional standards, while moral refers to your personal values.
The distinction is useful, but I cannot endorse the accuracy of the terminology.
