If you want to find the story about alligators, behold.
Monster Museum, one of the anthologies which has the alligator story, also has "King of the Cats" by Benet, which I'd count as transhumanism so far as desire is concerned, even though no practical method is offered.
Thanks for the link! Thought maybe I should berate you since your recent fiction request thread has also been a source of cool recommendations that will eat up too much of my reading time.
