Cryonics requires a good singularity.

Why? This isn't obvious to me. It seems plausible that we could develop the technology to directly repair bodies without a singularity. Cryonics being used for uploading seems likely to only occur in a singularity situation, but even then it seems sufficiently far off that it isn't clear.
