In short, baring any health benefits of macro composition of your diet, ketosis in and of itself is not necessary to lose weight.

That is true. However for many people "health benefits" beyond and above losing weight are a major advantage of keto diets.

Losing weight isn't be-all end-all of the way you eat.

Yea that is why I maintain a keto-esque diet, because I believe in the long term effects of reduced consumption of processed carbs and high glycemic index foods.

An analysis of the front page of r/keto only results in one post about positive health/cognitive effects, almost every post has to do with "look at how much weight I lost", which is a shame because you're right when you say that Losing weight isn't the be-all end-all of the way your eat.
