A chapter of a book I wrote now under consideration by a publisher addresses this. I am avoiding the temptation to spill the beans early. But here are a few words.
In an infinite universe all possibilities happen. Odd combinations of possibilities that make previously impossible things possible. The situation you describe (and any other situation) is true at some point in some part of an infinite universe.
Just travel a lot and be patient.
