Just finished MaddAddam, the conclusion of Margaret Atwood's Oryx and Crake dystopian trilogy. It is very well written and rather believable. Her dry sardonic humor is without peer. There are many LW-relevant ideas and quotes in it, but here is one that is most un-LW, about a cryo preservation company CryoJeenyus:

"Your friend has unfortunately had a life-suspending event"

"I’m so sorry for your temporary loss."

"Temporary Inertness Caretaker"

"a ferrying of the subject of a life-suspending event from the shore of life on a round trip back to the shore of life. It was a mouthful, but CryoJeenyus went in for that kind of evasive crapspeak. They had to, considering the business they were in: their two best sales aids being gullibility and unfounded hope. CryoJeenyus did not call those vehicles "hearses": they were "Life2Life Shuttles".

In these situations in real life I often find it's simply because people aren't aware of the science behind cryogenics.
