A useful option would be an education program that teaches critical thinking with the focus on bias in the media, and advertising tricks.
Even having high school students watch this 15 minute Media Watch show each week would help increase the awareness.
I believe this is pretty standard in media, communications, and journalism-ish programs. They don't call it "critical thinking" but they are definitely clear about the bias and tricks.
