I can't immediately find it, but a post by lukeprog convinced me to start paying attention to how I dress.

It was a top-level post. The argument that mostly stuck with me was along the lines of: even stipulating that fashion is dumb, a lot of people care about it, and dismissing all of those people offhand is probably not clever.
