Thanks for the link. I think one knows progress is happening when one gets an intense sensation that consciousness is a human word and the universe does not have to oblige our parochial biases by having it as a natural category.

That said, I am happy to take his recommendation to only take it a bit seriously, and in particular I think he's off-base about duplication and the "digital abstraction layer."
