Also, I am human. I am donating not because I am altruistic, but because it gives me a good feeling.

And even if there was no risk, my utility is marginal. I'll donate some to one cause until that desire is satisfied, I'll then donate to another cause until that desire is satisfied and so on.

Both of these points are founded on the idea of a philanthropist, giving solely for the fuzzies, which ignores the whole concept of effective altruism. (Technically, it's true that my utility function depends on how my actions effect me, but I have higher order desires which modulate my desire for fuzzies. Now that I know that most charities are ineffective, I won't feel good about my giving unless I'm giving effectively.)
