Among other issues with aiming for the middle of the road, I suspect that a Pascal's mugger who knows that you go for median (or, more generally, x-percentile by count) expected utility will be able to manufacture an offer where the median utility offer is makes you give in, just like the maximum utility offer does.
I bet a median-utility maximizer can be exploited. But I don't believe one can be exploited by a Pascal's mugging. What makes a Pascal's mugging a Pascal's mugging is that it involves a very low probability of a very large change in utility.
