Textured vegetable protein.

  1. Its calories/glycemic load is close to 1.
  2. Its calories/$$ is between 400-600.
  3. It's super easy to prepare. Just mix with water and add whatever flavorings.
  4. It's versatile. It soaks up flavor similar to tofu, and has a meat-like consistency. I add a scoop of nutritional yeast to give it an even meatier flavor then mix in whatever spices match the style of food I feel in the mood for. Chili powder, curry powder, italian seasonings, etc.
