Shouldn't the authors be aware of this? (I think one of them is even fairly well known in psychology circles.)

I am sure the authors are more informed about their work than anyone who has not read it.

I'm not sure what the correlation is between prominence and paper quality. At any rate, he-s a co-author; not the main author. Co-authors can sometimes have very little to do with the actual paper.
