Less Wrong DC Experimental Society

3 atucker 13 June 2011 03:56AM

During our latest meetup, the DC Less Wrong group has decided that we are interested in experimentally testing various lifehacks on ourselves (on an opt-in volunteer basis of course).

We need two things:

  • Metrics (to actually tell if there's a difference or not, rather than convince ourselves that there is)
  • Things to test

Do any other groups have any measurements that they take to track their various attributes? Anything that they'd be interested in testing?

DC Meetup: Discussion

1 atucker 03 May 2011 02:39AM

LessWrong DC has had its first meetup! 13 people showed up, and it was pretty fun.

We have a google group here, and will have most of the planning there.

However, we haven't met all the LWers in the DC area yet, so that's what this thread is for.

We're meeting again on the 15th, but were wondering -- is there anyone in Northern Virginia who would be potentially interested, but didn't come?

DC Meetup: Last Discussion Thread

Followup to: this and this

I'm going to be in Cambridge for the next week or so, so I'm posting things now to make sure that we can get the ball rolling.

There's going to be DC meetups on May 1st and May 15th. 2 PM - 8 PM, unless anyone objects.

There was discussion about whether to meet in Bethesda or NW DC. I propose that we just try a meetup in both, May 1st in Bethesda and May 15th in NW DC.

Some questions I have:

  • Any suggestions on what I should look for in a venue?
  • Anything you want me to ask the Cambridge meetup group?

I have some preliminary things to talk about in mind, but if you guys could think about a few topics too, it would be helpful.

DC Meetup Discussion

There are some LWers in the DC area. We should meet up.

Unfortunately, I'm out of town pretty much until the end of April. But there are a few things to work out before then, so I might as well post now.

A meetup needs:

  • People
  • Location
  • Time/Day
  • Things to do/talk about
The first one is covered by you and your rational friends showing up.

I'm not sure about the other three. Does anyone else have input on these? I'm particularly clueless about the location, but think we should meet on the weekends. I'm fine arbitrarily deciding these, but if there's anything more convenient for other people we have time to plan before I'm available again.
Please comment if you're interested, or have suggestions.
I hereby precommit to having a meetup in May planned by April 26th.
This  also talked about having a meeting on May 15th.
