Russian native speakers wanted as editors (translating "Smarter Than Us")

6 listic 24 April 2014 10:40PM

Thanks to the efforts of volunteer translators, Smarter Than Us: The Rise of Machine Intelligence was translated into Russian.

Many thanks to the volunteers who translated it, and to Stuart Armstrong who wrote it in the first place!

But now, we need fresh volunteers who can help as editors, to proofread and edit the translated text before it will be compiled into beautiful pdf. If you were not working as a volunteer translator of this text and are willing to help, please contact me by email: . Please translate the synopsis as a 'test task'. If I have already asked you to translate it, but you haven't been working on the translation, please point it out to me or re-send your translation (sorry, it might got buried in the emails).

Thank you!

Karma awards for proofreaders of the Less Wrong Sequences ebook

6 alexvermeer 12 December 2013 12:18AM

MIRI is gathering a bunch of Eliezer’s writings into a nicely-edited ebook, currently titled The Hard Part is Actually Changing Your Mind. This book will ultimately be released in various digital formats (Kindle MOBI, EPUB, and PDF). Much of the initial work for this project is complete. What we need now are volunteers to review the book's chapters to:

  • verify that all the content has been correctly transferred (text, equations, and images),
  • proofread for any typographical errors (spelling, punctuation, layout, etc.),
  • verify all internal and external links,
  • and more.

This project has been added to Youtopia, MIRI’s volunteer system. (Click “Register as a Volunteer” here to sign up. Already signed up? Go here.)

LW Karma Bonus

For this special project, every point earned in Youtopia will also earn you 3 karma on LW!

Points are awarded based on the amount of time spent proofreading the book. For example, an hour of work logged in Youtopia earns you 10 points, which will also get you 30 LW karma. Karma is awarded by admins in a publicly-accountable way: all manual karma additions are listed here.

Questions about this project can be directed to alexv@intelligence.org or in the comments.

Help needed: German translation of the Singularity FAQ

18 cadac 28 October 2011 09:06PM

At lukeprog's suggestion, I translated the Singularity FAQ into German. Unfortunately, Tripitaka, who volunteered to proofread, doesn't seem to have read my messages. As the translation is far from perfect, I ask German-speaking users to help with finalizing the text. Also, I have no objections if you'd like to upvote this post (and the comments of anyone who participates) as a way of incentivizing this kind of work.

The whole text should be proofread at least once, but you could help a great deal just by going over the highlighted sections. It helps if you are knowledgeable on the subject. The document is on Google docs, editable by anyone. I have made a backup and I think you can revert changes Wikipedia-style, so edit away!

Here it is.

Side-by-side version (comment only, changes should be made in the other version).

To-do-list.
