I've been pushing in this direction a lot lately. Right now I'm wrestling with three meta-questions:
Why optimize? Why have a utility function? Why process at all?
Why continue to have a sense of 'self' and 'utility' when there is no longer any relevant behavior for them to guide? I.e., why do these processes continue to operate in the face of perfect akrasia/powerlessness?
