Audio version of Rationality: From AI to Zombies out of beta

10 Rick_from_Castify 25 November 2015 08:19PM

All three volumes of the ebook Rationality: From AI to Zombies are complete and available for purchase on Castify.  A big thanks to the narrator George Thomas.  The total recording time is over 51 hours.

Five math-heavy essays in the second volume went unread because they didn't make for good listening.  To read these the ebook can be downloaded on a "pay-what-you-want" basis from intelligence.org.

Thanks again to the original kickstarter backers, we wouldn't have been able to do this without you.

Kickstarting the audio version of the upcoming book "The Sequences"

31 Rick_from_Castify 16 December 2014 01:01AM

LessWrong is getting ready to release an actual book that covers most of the material found in the Sequences.

There have been a few posts about it in the past, here are two: the title debate, content optimization.

We've been asked if we'd like to produce the audiobook version and the answer is yes. This is a large undertaking. The finished product will probably be over 35 hours of audio.

To help mitigate our risk we've decided to Kickstarter the audiobook.  This basically allows us to pre-sell it so we're not stuck with a large production cost and no revenue.

The kickstarter campaign is here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1267969302/lesswrong-the-sequences-audiobook

If you haven't heard of us before we've already produced some sequences into audiobooks.  You can see them and listen to samples which are indicative of the audio quality here.

The Promoted Posts and the Metaethics sequence now available in audio

16 Rick_from_Castify 03 June 2014 02:00AM

We are proud to announce audio versions of the Less Wrong Promoted Posts and the Metaethics major sequence, both now available via a Castify Podcast.

The Less Wrong Promoted Posts feed will have every new promoted post which has been tagged with the Creative Commons Attribution License.  We'll aim to have them read and to you via the podcast within 48 hours.  We've found this to be a good way to keep up with Less Wrong, especially for longer articles like last month's interesting long-form post called "A Dialouge on Doublethink" by BrienneStrohl.

The Metaethics Sequence is the next installment of the sequences we've produced into audio.  We now have 7 Less Wrong sequences in audio, with more on their way.

As always we appreciate your support and your feedback: support@castify.co.

Audio Version of "How to Actually Change Your Mind"

14 Rick_from_Castify 18 February 2014 08:23PM

The audio version of the mega-sequence "How to Actually Change Your Mind" is now available.  It's the biggest sequence we've done yet, coming in at over 8 hours of audio.  Here at Castify we think this sequence is the most important one we've done so far.

On the wiki it says, "The most important technique that Less Wrong can offer you is 'How to Actually Change Your Mind'".  I couldn't agree more.  If you haven't read it already I'd strongly recommend it.  If you have more free "ear time" than "eye time" or you learn better from listening this audio version is for you.

Feedback is welcome: support@castify.co

Reductionism sequence now available in audio format

18 Rick_from_Castify 02 June 2013 02:55AM

The sequence "Reductionism", which includes the subsequences "Joy in the Merely Real" and "Zombies", is now available as a professionally read podcast.

Thanks to those who've been listening, let us know how your experience has been thus far and what you think of the service by dropping an email to support@castify.co.

Second major sequence now available in audio format

22 Rick_from_Castify 31 January 2013 05:25AM

The sequence "A Human's Guide to Words" is now available as a professionally read podcast.

We have started working on the large "Reductionism" sequence which includes both the "Joy in the Merely Real" and the "Zombies" sub-sequences.  They should be available in a couple of weeks.

New Sequences and General Update From Castify

11 scott_from_castify 10 December 2012 04:45AM

You may have noticed the announcement last week of Less Wrong's partnership with Castify to create Less Wrong podcasts. We're happy to announce that we now offer three new sequences. For those who want to try us out, we are also offering Eliezer's seminal essay, The Simple Truth, as a standalone 99¢ purchase (it's also part of the Map and Territory sequence).

Our channels:

We have audio samples on our site if you're curious.

In other news, we're still working to make the promoted posts available as a monthly subscription. We'll keep you up to date with the progress on that. It's still a few weeks away.

Side note: Because of user feedback, we have removed the one year download restriction for sequences purchased. However, we have added a clause in our terms of service that gives you a minimum of two years to download the audio, if only because living forever is hard, even for digital goods.

See you in the comments.
