I'm particularly excited about several invited speakers, such as neuroscientist Christof Koch (who I've blogged about here) and author Sharon Bertsch McGrayne who recently published The Theory That Would Not Die: How Bayes' Rule Cracked the Enigma Code, Hunted Down Russian Submarines, and Emerged Triumphant from Two Centuries of Controversy.

Singularity Summit 2010 Less Wrong Meetup

7 Mycroft65536 11 August 2010 10:53PM

It's been a whole year (almost) and the Singularity Summit is upon us again. This time, instead of having a Meetup for only a few hours, we're going to have a continuous meetup lasting the entire length of the Summit. We will have a room adjacent to the lobby with a sign proclaiming "Less Wrong Meetup." We can discuss the topics brought up in the Summit, exploring their implications, and just having fun with a large concentration of rationalists in an intellectually stimulating environment.

NY-area OB/LW meetup Saturday 10/3 7 PM

Since lots of us anticipate being in New York this weekend for Singularity Summit 2009, it seems like a great time to hold a NY-area Overcoming Bias/Less Wrong meetup! Whether you're attending the summit or not, do consider dropping by the 92nd Street Marriott any time after 7PM, where you will find a lively group of rationalists discussing and dissecting the day's events, and the ideas presented by the summit speakers. We'll be meeting in the hotel's internal restaurant, which should be open until well after midnight.

RSVP at the Facebook Group or see this event in Google Calendar.

Singularity Summit 2009 (quick post)

Someone else may do a more formal announcement later, but since early registration expires on August 20th, I'm doing a quick heads-up to Less Wrong readers:

The Singularity Summit 2009 is in New York on Oct 3-4.

There are discounts for students, blog mentions, referrals, and registration before August 20th.

Speakers of note to rationalists will include Robin Hanson, Gary Drescher (author of Good and Real, one of the few master-level works of reductionism out there), and David Chalmers.  Also speaking will be Marcus Hutter and Juergen Schmidhuber, as well as some of the usual suspects:  Aubrey de Grey, Peter Thiel, Ben Goertzel, and Ray Kurzweil.

They're really trying to raise the intellectual level this year.
