You can start a Less Wrong Meetup in Glasgow, or plan to travel to the London one once in a while.

Which one of these opportunities will give you more good choices in 5 years?

How do you meditate? I've tried to get into meditation before, but never found a variant I was comfortable with.

I follow my breath. A meditation teacher can offer you constructive suggestions, specific to the difficulties you are having.

If I were reading this in inconsolata, I'd have known that. Thanks.

Hey everyone!

I'm ll, my real name is Lukas. I am a student at a technical university in the US and a hobbyist FOSS programmer.

I discovered Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality accidentally one night, and since then I've been completely hooked on it. After I caught up, I decided to check out the Less Wrong community. I've been lurking since then, reading the essays, comments, hanging out in the IRC channel.

I might be able to help build the site due to the following bits from my past:

  • Javascript/XHTML/etc. experience
  • WAMP/LAMP/ASP .NET experience
  • Coordinated >20 people across multiple time zones using web forums/online chat
  • Ran a website with a chatroom and used it to hold meetings
  • Slight obsession with user interfaces (built web applications/desktop applications)

Downside:

  • Due to personal things, I don't have the time to lead or contribute -hugely- to this effort.

Ideas:

  • Keep the project management side of things relatively transparent (perhaps using Github, SourceForge, or at least keeping the spec in a wiki).
  • Have a public bug tracker.

That's depressing.

There's also poking around online to find people with similar symptoms. . When I say I think his blog is good, I mean that he shows respect for human variation and for science-- I'm not sure that he's right about particular things.

Are you referring to curetogether.com, Nancy?

afaik, someone downvotes all of the meetup posts when they come up, and two other people upvote all of them shortly thereafter.

I up vote meetup posts because running a meetup is work, and is undervalued in this community.
