Not related too much to the topic, but this post made me realize that the Russian word val'uta (currency) is cognate with value. I'd heard the word for most of my life, but I never made the connection.

I will be coming to San Jose for the summit with 12 other students (11 from HMC and one from Caltech). We'll probably stay around until 6:30 to 7:00 on Saturday to get past rush hour since we'll be driving back down to LA.

I'm the only regular OB reader out of the group (with the possible exception of the Caltech guy), and I would definitely like to attend the meetup, if only for a little while. I'm sure my friends would like it too, especially after hearing everything they've ever wanted to hear about the future of humanity and the singularity at the summit.

I find it funny that HMC just happens to be the acronym for my college.

On the other hand, I find this new style of writing intriguing. I think it will make a lot of sense in the book :)

Eliezer: If you have a bit of time on your hands (unlikely), you could probably write a short script that would: search all your quote files for urls check the pages they refer to for the corresponding quotes if the page doesn't have the quote go to the archive and repeat the same process for strategically selected pages there (maybe binary search, to find the latest archived version) and finally replace the old defunct url with the archived one.

It would be a great time-saver, especially if you have lots more quotes up your sleeve :)
