Yes, really.

WHAT: What is consciousness? What things are conscious?

Recommended reading: http://lesswrong.com/lw/p9/the_generalized_antizombie_principle/ http://www.utilitarian-essays.com/consciousness.html

Feel free to post and add anything to the recommended reading, as long as it is short enough to read before Sunday. Don't post entire Hofstadter books.

WHERE: 300 S Goodwin Ave Apt 102, Urbana. The door directly to my ground-floor apartment, on which you can knock and I will hear it, is at the North-West corner of the building. Do not attempt to enter through the building's main door, because that requires keycard access, and I will not be waiting there to let you in. If you have trouble getting in, call me at REDACTED.

WHEN: 12pm Sunday.

Two meetups I can remember didn't have enough people at them to make them what they could have been. By the power of disjunction, I bet that one of them was only scantily attended because people couldn't make it that week, even though it is a worthwhile topic.

So, two topics for this meetup: Nomic (A game where you vote to change any of the rules) and Folk Wisdom (How to extract real wisdom from it),

For types of arguments commonly called fallacies, Why can using this kind of argument mislead you? When can a similar argument be a good one? Is this argument flat-out nonsense, or is it weak Bayesian evidence? (http://lesswrong.com/lw/aq2/fallacies_as_weak_bayesian_evidence/) Why do people make this argument? Does it have roots in cognitive biases? In useful heuristics? If this is a fallacy in moral arguments, can it be a good argument to humans with not-too-uncommon moral preferences?

We'll be running through this list, or a similar one: http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Logical_fallacy

Coordinates are: 40.109545,-88.227318 Meetup will be held in the the Courtyard Cafe in the Illini Union, on the ground floor.

The location is 300 S Goodwin Ave Apt 102, Urbana Illinois. The main entrance to the building requires card access, but there is a door directly to my apartment from the outside at the Northwest corner of the building. If you have any trouble getting in, call my phone, REDACTED
