As suggested earlier- mind games for all!
We'll be attempting some basic social games, as inspired by http://lesswrong.com/lw/58/build_skills_in_the_right_order/ - simple stuff, like holding eye contact for absurd periods without staring down, and simple enunciation games.
Also, Rejection therapy! I personally expect everyone here to ask to join a strangers board game. Extra points for success!
You need only bring enthusiasm and preparation for awkwardness. Also the desserts here are pretty decent...

Hey all!
Just a reminder for the up-coming meet up at the Sydney RSL - level 3 at the restaurant.
Wed did not get to try nomic last time- barring a better idea, might as well give it a shot now

Have not been to a meetup before - can I just show up or is there somewhere to sign up or something?
Just show up! Only one guy bites, you'll be warned about him. Strongly suggest you join the FB group in case you get lost though - http://www.facebook.com/groups/219526434802422/

Hello everyone - the time has come for another meet up!
As per suggestions made at the previous event, the food at Norita's is crap, and Mafia has proven to be more fun than most board games. Hence, the suggestion goes that we might try City of Sydney RSL!
That said, esoteric pursuit is encouraged, and if you want to bring any materials like board games, feel free! Suggestions on time changes, venue changes and topics, as always, are solicited from the floor.

[Note - because of a large proportion of people attending who do not regularly read less wrong, a more general topic was chosen]
On this night, the topic is something recently highlighted on Less Wrong's sister blog, Overcoming bias. http://www.overcomingbias.com/2012/06/the-smart-are-more-biased-to-think-they-are-less-biased.html
Essentially, do you think being smarter makes you more fair in your judgement? Does the ability to see more patterns make you better, or merely more likley to be a conspiracy theorist?
Don't know the topic? Worried this is just another cult out for your organs? Doesn't matter. Come for the mindset, board games and to meet new people. Also, the increasingly absurd desserts available at Norita's Cafe and Board games.
Feel free to bring whomever you wish, as always. If you want to invite friends to the group, ask for admin status in the FB group!

Hey all! As usual, we'll be conducting our meet up at the Norita Cafe and Board Games. And furthermore, as usual, we'll be soliciting topics from the floor.

I'm going to start using this article as a kicking off point for new people to "get" less wrong...

Hey all!
At the suggestion of at least 4 people (THAT'S QUORUM TO ME!) we will be conducting meetups on an "every 2 weeks" schedule. Following the Melbourne example, the intention is to alternate between social and rationality meet ups - based again on the alternating monday-thursday schedule.
Furthermore, we suppose there might be synergies to to attempting to integrate ourselves with circus soc on some evenings - somehow there seems to be a large demographic overlap. Thoughts are solicited!
As always, meetup FB group can be found at http://www.facebook.com/groups/219526434802422/

When I was having a lot of trouble getting out of bed reasonably promptly in the mornings: practice getting out of bed - but not after just having woken up, that's what I was having trouble with in the first place. No, during the day, having been up for a while, go lie in bed for a couple of minutes with the alarm set, then get up when it goes off. Also, make this a pleasant routine with stretching, smiling and deep breathing.
I found this idea on the net here, which may have more details: http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/2006/04/how-to-get-up-right-away-when-your-alarm-goes-off/
I tried it and it seemed to help a lot for a while, and I feel more in control of my weekend mornings.
I agree absolutely - however the effect wanes. I found the behavior would go extinct maybe a week or so after a 20 minute session of doing this. Reading this has inspired me to do the straightforward thing and just practice weekly.
