copy-pasted from a draft by the member who proposed the topic:
We’ll be gathering in the courtyard to discuss utopias. The idea behind the topic is, in light of changes such as automation, climate change, and the recent problems with the financial system, whether it’s possible to come up with a far-future society that is sustainable, self-consistent, and where people, if at all possible, can be happy as well. What problems do you think plague society today, what would be a solution, and how do we get there? It’s the ultimate in world-building!
As always, side conversations are allowed and encouraged.

We will be congregating around the southwest corner of the garden, near the Sackler Gallery, and set out from there toward the Tidal Basin. Discussion article for the meetup : Washington, D.C.: Designing Games
This is a meetup for talking about game design and for designing games. We may do some pre-meetup planning on the list (e.g. brainstorming ideas; volunteering materials - I, for one, plan to bring a bunch of index cards - &c.) or just see what we come up with during the session; if all goes well, we may have something we can play at the Fun & Games meetup the next week.
If multiple groups want to work on separate games, that is completely okay and probably a good idea.
And, as always, unrelated side conversations are permitted and welcome.
Upcoming meetups:
- Mar. 13: Fun & Games
- Mar. 20: Game Theory
- Mar. 27: Singing
