Discussion article for the meetup : Israel Less Wrong Meetup: Communities and the rationalist community
We're going to have a meetup on Thursday, August 21st at Google Israel's offices, Electra Tower, 98 Yigal Alon st., Tel Aviv.
This time will be a discussion of Communities, Community Building and the Rationalist
Community. We will have an overview of interesting things other meetups do around the world and we will discuss outreach, attracting more members and growing our own community. We'll also talk about fun things we want to do in future meetups.
This meetup will have a lectur-y section, and then we will have a discussion on how to make our community better.
We'll start the meetup at 19:00, and we'll go on as much as we like to. (We've had great success with the earlier hour last meetup and so we're continuing on the trend)
Please come on time, as we will begin the discussions and talks close to when we start. But, if you can only come later, thats totally ok!
We'll meet at the 29th floor of the building (Note: Not where Google Campus is). If you arrive and cant find your way around, call Anatoly who is graciously hosting us at 054-245-1060.
The Israeli Less Wrong Meetup happens once every two weeks. This is to allow people who cant make it to a meetup to not have to wait a whole month to meet again, and because we'd like to have both subject based and social meetups without having to wait for a month in between.
If you have any question feel free to email me at hochbergg@gmail.com or call me at 054-533-0678.

We're going to have a meetup on Thursday, August 7th at Google Israel's offices, Electra Tower, 98 Yigal Alon st., Tel Aviv.
This time we're going to have a social meetup! We'll be socializing and playing games. Also, we'll be continuing discussion we started in the mailing list about friendly AI!
We'll start the meetup at 19:00, and we'll go on as much as we like to. Feel free to come a little bit later, as there is no agenda.
We'll meet at the 29th floor of the building (Note: Not the 34th where Google Campus is). If you arrive and cant find your way around, call Anatoly who is very graciously hosting us at 054-245-1060.
Things that might happen: - You'll trade cool ideas with cool people from the Israel LW community. - You'll discover kindred spirits who agree with you about one/two boxing. - You'll kick someone's ass (and teach them how you did it) at some awesome boardgame - You'll discover how to build a friendly AGI running on cold fusion (well probably not) - You'll discuss interesting AI topics with new friends!
Things that will happen for sure: - You'll get to hang out with awesome people and have fun!
There is also talk of food and beers, and if you'd like to bring some too - that would be great. (But you don't have to).
If you have any question feel free to email me at hochbergg@gmail.com or call me at 054-533-0678 or call Anatoly at 054-245-1060. See you there!

We're going to have a meetup on Thursday, July 24th at Google Israel's offices, Electra Tower, 98 Yigal Alon st., Tel Aviv.
This time will be a discussion of Futurism - but not necessarily relating to AI. Body and mind modifications, utopias, and everything in between. Vadim Kosoy will open up the session by telling us about possible utopias, safeguards for self-modification and more.
Afterwards we'll have a semi-structured discussion where we'll discuss about our preferences for the future, and anything else relating to what's behind the horizon.
We'll start the meetup at 19:00, and we'll go on as much as we like to. (We've had great success with the earlier hour last meetup and so we're continuing on the trend)

Note that we are trying a transition to a meet once every two weeks. This is to allow people who cant make it to a meetup to not have to wait a whole month to meet again, and because we'd like to have both subject based and social meetups and doing one meetup a month would make that hard.

* NOTE - Meetup date was moved to Wednesday, April 30th *
We're going to have a meetup on Wednesday, April 30th at Google Israel's offices, Electra Tower, 98 Yigal Alon st., Tel Aviv.
This time will be a discussion of General Artificial Intelligence and Existential Risk - subjects that are both core to LessWrong and some would say important for the sake of the future of humanity. Like the successful productivity hacks session we will have multiple speakers talking about various aspects of artificial intelligence explosion, decision theories, and existential risk.
Examples of subjects we will be talking about: One-Boxing vs Two-Boxing, Resurrection after a friendly singularity, Constructing friendly utility functions, X-Risk and the chances of FOOM... We will also be talking to explore and learn from each-other about AI. This meetup will assume previous knowledge of LW writings and discussion about AI and X-Risk, but even if you don't know a lot about it and are simply interested you should come.
We'll start the meetup at 19:00, and we'll go on as much as we like to. (We've had great success with the earlier hour last meetup and so we're continuing on the trend)

We will also be talking to each other about what works for each of us, and learn about how to actually implement these things in our lives.

We're going to have a meetup on Thursday, Jan 30th at VisionMap's offices, Gibor Sport House, 15th floor, 7 Menachem Begin st., Ramat-Gan.
Our program is:
20:00-20:15: Assembly
20:15-21:00: Main Talk
21:00-22:00: Dinner & Discussion
22:00-23:00: Rump Session (minitalks)
23:00-: End of official programming
Main Talk: Uses of Cryptography / Daniel Armak
How can you use Cryptography as a tool? Most conversations about cryptography deal with the available crypto primitives. This talk will instead focus on what you can do with them and describe the most important and/or interesting things that have been built using crypto as a tool. (The primitives will be briefly described).
The talk will be accessible to people without knowledge of the math behind cryptography.
Backup Talk: TBA
Rump Session: Each participant will give a 4-minute talk (+3 minute encore if we applaud hard enough). Giving a talk isn't mandatory, but it's highly recommended. Not confident that what you have to say is relevant to our interests? Unsure about your public speaking skills? Doesn't matter - in the rump session, anything goes. - Note, you don't have to prepare a talk to come! Speaking at the rump session is completely only if you want to.
Feel free to contact me (Gal Hochberg) at hochbergg@gmail.com or at 0545330678 for any further information

* UPDATE *
Sadly, Tomer had to move his flight to an earlier date, and so he will not be able to attend.
Instead, our main talk will be Solving real problems with economics by Aur Saraf .
Furthermore, we will be hosting another special guest, Joshua Fox, a MIRI Research Associate and representative in Israel who will tell us a little about his job at MIRI and AI research.
