New Year's Prediction Thread (2014)

9 Thomas 01 January 2014 09:38AM

It's time to look back to see what was predicted a year ago and how successfully it was.

But even more, it's time for the fresh predictions for the following year, 2014.

If it's worth saying, but not worth its own post (even in Discussion), then it goes here.

Another month has passed and here is a new rationality quotes thread. The usual rules are:

  • Please post all quotes separately, so that they can be upvoted or downvoted separately. (If they are strongly related, reply to your own comments. If strongly ordered, then go ahead and post them together.)
  • Do not quote yourself.
  • Do not quote from Less Wrong itself, Overcoming Bias, or HPMoR.
  • No more than 5 quotes per person per monthly thread, please.

New Year's Prediction Thread (2013)

5 Thomas 01 January 2013 02:03PM

Try to predict something important in a way, that it will be easy to judge it in 2014, how (in)accurate your predictions really were. Don't leave too much space for a doubt what was really said.

Questions for shminux

-4 Thomas 22 June 2012 07:35PM

As mister shminux mentioned somewhere, he is happy and qualified to answer questions in the field of the Relativity. Here is mine:

A long rod (a cylinder) could have a large escape velocity in the direction of its main axe. From its end, to the "infinity". Larger than the speed of light. While the perpendicular escape velocity is lesser than the speed of light.

Is this rod then an asymmetric black hole?

[META] Karma counting problem

0 Thomas 18 April 2012 07:51AM

At the moment my karma is 450 and -50 for the last 30 days. I had never 500. Also not a month ago.

Must be a bug in the karma counting system.
