We'll have two talks by guest speakers, and also one brainstorm:

  • Vitaliy Dolgorukov will talk about game theory pragmatics.
  • Viktor Argonov will talk about a test for mind-body problem.
  • Alexander230 will conduct a brainstorm session, searching for problem cases for training practical rationality Details on the talks are in the hackpad.

Two important announcements:

1) We're moving to the Extropolis conference hall. It's in the same Yandex building (well, almost), but it has a different entrance. Look below for the details. 2) I got asked by Yandex people to implement a registration process. So, please enter your name into this form if you're going to join us. (I'll think about how to make this process less annoying for the regular visitors. In the meantime, the good news is that you don't need a Yandex badge to enter Extropolis.)

Our planned activities for this meetup:

  • Alex will give a talk about meta-model.
  • Pavel will give a talk about epistemology.
  • Pion will talk about Taboo technique, and we'll have our usual belief investigation exercise. We also have a lot planned for the afterparty:
  • Prisoner's dilemma tournament, again

This Sunday, we'll have our usual meetup, consisting of three talks and one large practice session.

Talks (1h total):

  • Eugene on power effects on cognition.
  • Denis on two modes of time perception.
  • Slava (me) on comparative advantage in economics (and life lessons following from it).

Communication practice session:

Pion will continue to organize the communication techniques practice. We will repeat the exercise from the last session, and try the new one.

This Sunday, at our usual place and time, we have the following activities planned:

5-minute talks:

  • SD on the model of decision making;
  • Max on CBT and traces of automatic thoughts in written texts.

Pion will explain phenomenological analysis, and then we will have our usual belief investigation practice.

Tanya will describe various creativity techniques and conduct the practice session using them.

  • Pion will give a short talk about the Toulmin model of argument
  • we'll have our usual belief investigation practice after this, hopefully using Toulmin's ideas
  • Pavel will give a talk on the linguistic relativity and visual image categorization (which was canceled last time)
  • finally, L29Ah will mediate a L29Ah-style discussion on why people attend our meetups

What we have planned for Sunday:

  1. Talk about the identity and self-esteem by Max, based on the ideas from Paul Graham, Albert Ellis and lesswrong.
  2. Pavel's talk on the linguistic relativity and visual image categorization.
  3. Pion will explain Davidson's view on the mind-body problem, and then debate it with Slava (me).
  4. I'll summarize the results of our new habit installation group, and we'll figure out together how to continue with it.

PS: This is our traditional bi-weekly LW meetup, which is different from the LW lecture centre which started last week. The margin of this announcement is too narrow to contain the explanation on how and why this happened, but you may find some clues in the hackpad which I linked above.

  • exercise on searching cognitive biases in texts
  • a talk on cognitive errors for the practical case of building computer clusters
  • calibration session
  • talk and exercises on analyzing and changing your identity
  • training game
  • afterparty: board games

Yudcoins, positive reinforcement and pizza will all be present. If you've been to our meetups, you know what I'm talking about, and if you didn't, the best way to find out is to come and see for yourself.

The willpower group, and terminal value exercise sound very interesting - Please share notes or write up articles about these (or if the stream ends up working, please share a link to the record)!

Willpower group is our long-running project, coming to an end soon. People were working through Kelly McGonigal's "Willpower Instinct", one chapter per week. I guess I should write up about it.

Don't know much about terminal values exercise yet. I'll let its maker know that you're interested.

We all speak Russian, so the stream isn't going to be useful to the general lesswrong.com community, unfortunately.
