Damn, it appears I haven't read the off-topic thread where Magic players were sought after.

So let me state here that Magic was my number one passion between ages 14-20 or so. I sold my collection (including the Power Nine and other goodies) in order to donate to SIAI, though.

(Haven't regretted it, even though Magic is such a hugely fun game.)

Not a M:TG player (any more) but I am fairly keen on Android:Netrunner, a reprint of one of Richard Garfield's other designs.

The Grumpy Programmer - "RFIDs, Encryption, and Stop Rules... Oh My!" -- A bit rambly in the middle, but an interesting post on trying to get people to look past their cached thoughts.

I don't know if there is a name for this, but I've heard of people who take a time-stamped picture of the stove just before they leave, to help them cope with an OCD symptom like that. It is somewhat better than the old approach of carrying an iron with you to avoid worrying whether you turned it off :)

Thankfully I don't have anything like that. Mentally telling myself "yes, I see that I've turned off the stove" is sufficient.

Whenever I left home after making a cooked breakfast, I would worry that I'd left the gas on. I'd always have to go back and check, but of course the burner was off. I've fixed this by noticing that I have noticed that I've turned off the gas. Is there a common name for this pattern?

Yes, you're right. I didn't like the change that's all, and was hoping for a majority to back me. But if anyone wants to do that, that would certainly be a good idea

I was tasked to replace it, because it apparently tested better. The timing of the reddit thread linked by asd was just coincidence.

I haven't read it yet myself, but I'd suggest that "Mind Hacks" is likely your best bet: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mind-Hacks-Tricks-Using-Brain/dp/0596007795

I was disappointed with Mind Hacks, which felt like a pile of "hey, isn't it interesting that your brain does X", for various X. Mind Performance Hacks was better ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mind-Performance-Hacks-Tools-Overclocking/dp/0596101538 ), but covers a lot of things you could just find on the Mentat Wiki ( http://www.ludism.org/mentat/ ).

Didn't even get to the point of getting the DB up and running when I looked into it before I ran out of motviation (at that time). LW-hacking is not particularly accessible, though it's not clear how high making it more accessible is as a priority.

When did you last try? You should be able to more-or-less go git checkout -> vagrant up and have everything pretty much ready to go. https://github.com/tricycle/lesswrong/wiki/Development-VM-Image

Regarding changes to LW software, I think the process can be improved if the persons responsible will allow LWers with coding skills to volunteer their time.

We've had a bit of an attendance drop recently at our local Meetup Group (London). This could be because of a lot of things, but it seems to roughly coincide with the change to where Meetups are posted on Lesswrong. Have any other Groups experienced anything of the sort?

I opened a poll about this on a previous open thread, but it was when the thread was nearly over so it didn't get many responses.

not punish people for openly noticing their weaknesses.

Thanks! Yes, that's a good point. On the other hand, willingness to confront problem users is one of the absolute minimum requirements for a forum moderator. I suppose Kaj was not expected to do the moderator's job, probably just behind-the-scene maintenance, and I assumed too much. Sorry, Kaj!

That said, a competent active forum moderator is required to deal with this particular issue, and I am yet to see one here.
