Folks, the weekly meeting for the DFW LessWrong group is still on for the Sunday on Memorial Day Weekend (5/27).
Same time, same place as usual. America's Best Coffee in Arlington from 1 to 3 PM. Last week, we competed for real estate with a religious meetup group; I'd say avoid religious topics to avoid confrontation, if possible. We want to be good stewards of this coffee shop so we get invited back.
Come on by if you are free and in the area. Also, have a great Memorial Day Weekend.
This group is really starting to build up some momentum! We have a handful of great folks and keep adding more every meeting.
Our agenda's typically include some guided discussion, rationality/debiasing games, and how to improve your own rationality.

Hello Dallas-Fort Worth LessWrongians! If you live in the area, and you haven't come out to meet us yet, you are missing out!
We currently have regular meetups every Sunday at America's Best Coffee in Arlington at 1 PM until 3 PM. We have gotten a good handful of people to show up to these events so far, and it has been very enjoyable and productive.
The current goal, or mission statement, of this group can be summarized as follows: "We want to first understand rationality, and then learn how to apply rationality to our daily lives. During our meet-ups we wish to take advantage of having a community over what can only be accomplished alone."

We had a handful of people show up last week, and it was quite enjoyable. Not bad for our first meetup! I'll remember to bring a sign this time!

1:00 Introductions and call to order
1:15 Discussion of: meetup group management (roles and agenda setting), mailing list options (meetup.com, facebook, google groups, etc.)
1:30 Discussion of core sequences. Recommended that you have read through the "Map and Territory" sequence (this is a short one), and start reading the "Mysterious Answers to Mysterious Questions" sequence. (this is a long sequence, so may take a few meetings to get through)
2:00 Some rationality-improving games.

arlington is quite a drive for most people in the metroplex.
perhaps we should take a page out of reddit's book, and instead of trying to have a single DFW meet, have a dallas meet and a fw meet.
Yea, I was aware of this. I didn't know what kind of turnout there would be, and I was planning on splitting it into Dallas and Fort Worth meet ups once there was enough folks to keep the momentum going.
I apologize for the short notice. The Dallas / Fort Worth metroplex area desperately needs a Less Wrong meetup! Fun fact – it is the largest metro area in the US that does not have an active meetup group!
That said - I shall be sitting at America's Best Coffee [3751 Matlock Road, Arlington TX 76105] from 1 PM to 3 PM (at the very least) on Sundays starting Sunday April 29th. Come out and meet some DFW LessWrongers.
Leading isn't really my thing, but I realize that I can't wait around forever for someone else to get the ball rolling! I am really interested in improving my mind to behave more rationally, especially with respect to instrumental rationality. I've been a self-improvement junkie for a while (Starting Strength, Toastmasters, improv, and PUA for about a year now), but only recently discovered LessWrong. Some of the recent articles sparked me to write this post. I'm working my way through some of the core sequences, slowly but surely.

I enjoy meditation, especially group meditation. It calms me down and helps me stay a bit more focused. I just want to do without the new age hippy bullshit. My eyes start to glaze over when people start to talk about God, chakras, and auras.
I need to bum some karma here. I want to start a Dallas / Fort Worth metro meetup. It's the largest metro in the US without an active LessWrong group, which is inexcusable!
