Most things are easier than they look, but writing software that's free of bugs seems to be an exception: people are terrible at it. So I don't share your hope.

IMHO there is obvious parallel here — “average person”-proficiency driving isn't that difficult at all. As well as writing some average buggy code. The truth is both of them are utterly crap at what they do and both are easily forgiven for errors.

Duolingo (https://duolingo.com/) makes language learning much more fun by using gamification. Silly, but it works - why would a sound of fanfares and a golden cup picture on a screen would make a learning more enjoyable? But it does.
