We're having a casual get-together to discuss topics related to Effective Altruism. There will also be some light vegan food available, and bringing more food for everyone to try is encouraged! You're welcome regardless of how familiar you are with Effective Altruism; the topics of discussion will be along the lines of researching charities, charity in Finland, and career choice.

The meeting is in Rydman, which is in the 9th floor of Kaivokatu 10 A. To reach the room, take the lift up to the 8th floor and then continue up the stairs and ring the doorbell to be let in. If the downstairs door is locked, ring the Ullakkosauna doorbell.

Topics of discussion will most likely revolve around subjects from two previous meetups: strategic thinking and habit formation, and reflections on how those were applied in practice.

How to find us: We’re meeting in Takkakabinetti in Otaniemi. You can find the room by following the signs inside the building.

The theme of this meetup will be habits. Kaj Sotala will give us an introduction to the subject, after which we’ll discuss habit formation in smaller groups.

We'll meet in the cafe at Helsinki Music Centre. Afterwards we'll probably move to Kaisla for socializing.

We’ll be trying a new location this time: Takkakabinetti in Otaniemi.

In this meetup, Pyry will give us a brief introduction to Lojban, which has been described as "the constructed language with the most complete grammar – a language created to reflect the principles of logic”.

We’ll also try personal problem solving in smaller groups. Get your problems solved, or help others!

Various board games will be available as well.

The theme of this meetup will be applied rationality. We’ll go through some CFAR materials, and we’ll try a few rationality exercises. The location is still uncertain, but will be updated as soon as possible.

We’ll tackle the theme of Quantified Self – can measurement and tracking of personal statistics be fun and useful, and how? We’ll go through examples of quantifying, and we’ll learn some very easy methods for doing statistical analysis.

We’re meeting in room 40 in Kirjasto 10. It’s reserved for three hours (15-18), after which we can relocate to either Kaisla or the Helsinki Music Centre.

In the future, meetups will probably happen every two weeks.
