Don't you want devoted followers?

Who leave their families for you

Give their money to you

Give their bodies to you

Give up their lives for you

Consider you God, and will kill for you

Don't you want to become a cult leader?

Since the death of God there has been a vacancy open

You can fill that void, here is how

I posted this last week but was too late to get any responses, so I'm reposting:

I want to change which charities I donate to, and am looking for transparent, accountable, secular (or at least non-evangelical) Canadian charities that promote democracy, social reform, infrastructure building, rationality, humanism, education, scientific progress, similar principles. Any suggestions for charities worth investigating, or at least a group/organization/website that can help me find what I'm looking for? In the past I haven't properly researched this sort of thing so I'm short on resources.

So far I've taken a closer look at Oxfam and Doctors Without Borders

(I might remind one of you that disagreement isn't grounds for downvoting all my posts)

Cryonics and transhumanism are laughably irrational. Guess that's what happens with a cult based on a Harry Potter fanfiction by a dropout

As a homeschooled individual with no college degree, Yudkowsky may not be in an ideal position to estimate his own smartness

Have you tried standing while working? You'll spend more energy and will stay more alert with fewer snacks and less caffeine.

He isn't insane, just fantastically silly, detached from reality and smug.

LessWrong's culture resembles, in most other respects, the standard set of predominately male, middle-class Internet-libertarians so familiar in other places — including cringe-inducing discussions of the merits of racism.

No I don't think he is insane, he is however like most singulatarians a fucking dumb ass.

I think an important fact for understanding the landscape of opinions on AI, is that AI is often taken as a frivolous topic, much like aliens or mind control.

Two questions:

1) Why is this?

2) How should we take it as evidence? For instance, if a certain topic doesn't feel serious, how likely is it to really be low value? Under what circumstances should I ignore the feeling that something is silly?

To a great extent Less Wrong is what happens when somewhat intelligent, but very lazy people have ideas percolate through the coffee machine of their inferior minds and then try to present them as something new. All the crud and mistakes of the original ideas and thinkers gets included, but there's a delightful new after-taste and hue, from badly maintained filters and old grounds.

"Small sample sizes, selection biases, and - above all - the inherent unreliability of the subjective opinions elicited mean that one should not read too much into these expert surveys and interviews. They do not let us draw any strong conclusion." - Bostrom, p21

Do you agree that we shouldn't read too much into e.g. AI experts predicting human-level AI with 90% probability by 2075?

Is there any research into the optimal ratio of simulation (such as a soccer scrimage) to drills/single skill practice (such as dribbling practice) for best performance?

Cult like adherence to the words of a relatively uneducated man, frequent babbling in pseudo-scientific nonsensical terms. 'reinventing the wheel' and trying to claim their knowledge is completely unique and undiscovered (despite the complete opposite). A seeming opposition to mainstream science, and belief in an incredibly dangerous practice (cryonics) that they believe will lead them to a perfect afterlife (replace heaven with singularity and god with AI), and a leader that makes money from sitting around all day taking donations from his 'followers'.

Oh and both Hubbard and Yudkowsky post long rambling author tracts that pretend to be a story....
