A question that arises out of dw2's proposal: what is the connection between rationality and futurism? I can think of some possibilities but I don't want to prime people, so I'll put them in a comment in a tick.

No ideas? The obvious one seems to be that futurism demands great rationality because it takes so long for reality to tell you what the truth is, and hindsight bias means people don't notice their errors.
